Tèa a home-made creation

At our guesthouse in Moissac, Chez Ma Poule, we wanted to reinvent the tradition of tea in our own way, by bringing in a fruit that’s emblematic of our region: Chasselas de Moissac.

Tèa, our Chasselas tea, tastes like sunshine — born from a golden, irresistible grape.

A hand-made drink from Moissac, made in France, bringing a touch of Occitania to the most widely consumed beverage in the world after water.

Tèa is served every morning at breakfast at Chez Ma Poule, or as an after-dinner treat.

    Chasselas de Moissac

It’s here, in the fertile, generous heart of the Tarn-et-Garonne, that a unique white table grape is grown: Chasselas de Moissac AOP.

This iconic fruit has shaped the landscape around Moissac for generations.

    • Chasselas de Moissac stands out for:
    • Crisp, delicate, translucent grapes
    • A golden colour
    • A loose, airy bunch
    • Fresh, refreshing flesh
    • A naturally sweet taste, with notes of honey and flowers

It’s this natural sweetness and delicate aroma that inspired the creation of our Chasselas tea, Tèa.

    Terroir – handcrafted

Grown across nearly 400 hectares by 200 growers, Chasselas de Moissac represents around 2,000 tonnes a year.
Entirely hand-picked work, passed down from generation to generation.

    THE SPIRIT OF TÈA

    From grape to tea,

Traditionally enjoyed fresh at the end of summer, Chasselas reveals a different side of itself here.
At Chez Ma Poule, we wanted to:
    – Celebrate this fruit in a new way
    – Extend its season
    – Offer travellers a light, elegant taste to remember

Chasselas tea was born from this idea: bottling the soul of Moissac in a cup.

    Did you know?

The name “Chasselas” is thought to come from a village in Burgundy, Chasselas, near Mâcon, believed to be where the first vine cuttings originated.

A tea inspired by a journey to China

Before it became a Chasselas tea from Moissac, Tèa was first and foremost a story of travel, encounters, and passing things on.

I’m Caroline, and I’ve been a tea lover for many years.

About twenty years ago, a trip to China opened my eyes to a world where tea is far more than a drink: it’s a way of life, a culture, a ceremony.

Fields stretching as far as the eye can see, precise gestures, a deep respect for time and nature…

That journey stayed with me. It’s what led, today, to Tèa.

    The making of Tèa

At the same time, in 2023, I fell in love with Occitanie. Often referred to as the “Garden of France”, the Tarn-et-Garonne region, where Moissac is located, is renowned for its rich agricultural heritage, culinary traditions and remarkable cultural landmarks. Alongside the Abbey of Saint-Pierre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose cloister is considered one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in France, Moissac is also celebrated for its famous Chasselas table grapes. This irresistible “golden grape” is still carefully harvested by hand.

After months of experimentation and tasting, the perfect balance of ingredients was finally achieved, creating this unique tea with its delicate, distinctive flavour.

Treat yourself to a journey through the flavours and traditions of Occitanie.

    A health benefit

The well-known antioxidant power of tea, thanks to the flavonoids and tannins it contains, is boosted here by the resveratrol concentrated in the skin of the Chasselas grape. Anti-inflammatory and a fighter against oxidative stress, it also plays a role in helping to prevent cardiovascular disease.

    How it’s made

    Harvest

In early September, the AOP-certified Chasselas grapes are hand-picked from the vineyards on the hillsides around Moissac.

    Destemming

After careful selection, the grapes are hand-stripped to remove stems and stalks, keeping only the pure "golden grain".

    Drying

The grapes are spread out on racks and dried in a dehydrator for 11 to 15 hours at a high temperature of between 70 and 75°C, to concentrate their flavour and ensure long-lasting preservation.

    Blending

Back at our on-site workshop in Moissac, the magic happens: ingredients are weighed, blended and mixed together. Ready for sale, Tèa is packed into metal tins, sealed with its own personalised label.

    Tea culture in Occitania

In and around Moissac, tea can also be discovered through places, encounters and stories.
Here are a few places and experiences to see, live… and savour.

Chez Ma Poule, to be pampered like royalty

Chez Ma Poule, pour être comme un coq en pâte” (meaning “at my hen’s place, to be pampered like royalty”) is both where Tèa is made and a tasting spot in its own right.
Alone, with friends or as a family, the enclosed, leafy garden offers a calm, sociable setting to discover Chasselas tea, take your time over it, and share a simple, genuine moment in the heart of Moissac.

La terre et le thé – Abbaye de Belleperche

In the abbey’s former guest lodgings, the exhibition “La terre et le thé” (“Earth and Tea”) showcases an exceptional collection devoted to the art of tea. Built up by Patrice Valfré since 1989, it brings together several hundred pieces of Chinese ceramics, from the Ming era through to the 2000s, reflecting five centuries of craftsmanship around Yixing clay.

    L'Ancrier, the floating bookshop

Moored at the port of Moissac, L’Ancrier is a floating bookshop set aboard a former passenger boat.
Fiction, children’s books, history, eco-tourism, wellbeing, books in English…
On sunny days, visitors settle in under the plane trees for talks and readings… or to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

    Frequently asked questions

    How can I enjoy Tèa?

This unique Chasselas-flavoured tea can be enjoyed at any time of the day. For the best tasting experience, use low-mineral water heated to 80°C. Gently mix the tea blend, place one teaspoon into a tea infuser or tea ball, pour over the hot water, and leave to infuse for 3 to 4 minutes. This allows the tea to fully release its delicate aroma and subtle notes of Chasselas grapes.

Why isn't Tèa sold in tea bags?

Tèa is deliberately not sold in individual tea bags for economic, environmental and practical reasons. Loose-leaf tea offers better value for money, reduces unnecessary packaging waste, and allows the blend to fully develop its aromas during infusion. It is presented in a reusable food-grade metal tin containing 70 g of loose tea, making it easy to store and transport.

    Where can I buy Tèa?

Tèa, the original Chasselas tea, is available to buy in Moissac at its birthplace, Chez Ma Poule, located at 17 Allée Marengo, Moissac. It is also stocked by a selection of local retailers in and around Moissac and Montauban.

Which versions of Tèa are available?

Tèa is available in two organic varieties: Organic Green Tea and Organic Black Tea. The teas are sourced from China and were carefully selected after extensive testing to achieve the perfect balance of flavours and create a truly distinctive, high-quality blend.

What are Tèa's values and commitments?

Tèa is an organic flavoured tea, made with either organic black tea or organic green tea, blended with Organic Chasselas de Moissac grapes harvested from a certified organic vineyard.

Plastic-free commitment: Tèa is presented in a reusable food-grade metal tin, with no plastic packaging.

How should I store Tèa once opened?

Once opened, simply close the metal tin securely after each use to preserve Tèa’s delicate aroma. Store it in a cool, dry place away from humidity to keep it at its best.

    What does Tèa contain?

Tèa is a handcrafted organic tea, made without artificial colours or preservatives. It is blended with Organic Chasselas de Moissac AOP grapes, grown by local winegrowers, organic black tea or organic green tea sourced from China, a delicate touch of premium dried flowers, and a few drops of natural white grape flavouring produced in Grasse, France.
